## The short list

Everyone loves free assets. Few free Framer templates survive contact with a
real project — they're usually a hero section and vibes. I make templates for a
living, so here's my bar: a free template should be a complete starting point
you could launch this week. Three clear it:

- **[Steakhouse](/templates/steakhouse/)** — a bold, menu-first restaurant site. If you run a steakhouse, grill, or neighborhood restaurant, this is your fastest path to a site as memorable as the room.
- **[Dietitian](/templates/dietitian/)** — a calm, editorial site for nutrition practices. Services, programs, and booking, without the agency invoice.
- **[Drywall](/templates/drywall/)** — a services-led contractor site. Built for drywall and general contractors who need credibility fast.

All three are free to remix from my [Framer profile](https://www.framer.com/@elliotli/?via=elliot-li).

## How to judge any free template in 60 seconds

1. **Count the pages.** One landing page is a demo; a real starter covers the pages your business needs (menu, services, contact at minimum).
2. **Check mobile.** Resize the preview. Thin mobile layouts are the most common free-template failure.
3. **Look for a CMS.** If you'll update content more than twice a year, a CMS-backed template saves you every single time.
4. **Read the layers.** Open it in Framer before committing — named layers and consistent text styles mean a weekend of customization, not a rewrite.

## When to go premium

Free covers the common cases. The moment you need operational machinery —
bookings, multi-day itineraries, inquiry routing — you want a purpose-built
platform. That's what [Eastward](/templates/eastward/) is: a CMS-driven travel
platform for boutique tour operators, with destinations, itineraries, and an
inquiry flow that feeds into Zapier, Make, or Google Sheets.

Start free. Pay when the business logic gets real.
